Live Like JesusTherefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
Every believer is on a quest; a quest to be more like Jesus. Over and over we are commanded to live as Jesus lived, to walk in his light, to love as Jesus loved. This is the journey of discipleship.
In his book, Multiply, Francis Chan, writes this about being a disciple, “The word disciple refers to a student or apprentice. Disciples in Jesus’s day would follow their rabbi (which means teacher) wherever he went, learning from the rabbi’s teaching and being trained to do as the rabbi did. Basically, a disciple is a follower, but only if we take the term follower literally. Becoming a disciple of Jesus is as simple as obeying His call to follow.” But discipleship isn’t just following Jesus. Discipleship is also about discipling someone else. Jesus said, in Matthew 28:19&20… "19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." (ESV) At Hickory Church, we believe that discipleship leads to life-on-life relationships. We follow Jesus' model in that discipleship is to be lived out through authentic relationships where we can love, grow and serve alongside one another. Practically speaking, that means that we take the time to nurture relationships that lead us to living lives that produce disciples. We offer a number of discipleship opportunities for children, students and adults. We invite you to visit the links below to learn more about each discipleship ministry. |
